Smaller blooms than its family member the Pansy but don۪t be fooled these are just as hardy and will even do well in some shady areas. Violas still need plenty of sun but an excellent option if you have some shaded areas but still allow half a day of sun. Water well to establish the first few weeks. Once rooted in, do not over water, allow to dry between watering. Once a week through the middle of winter is more than enough for an established bed of pansies. Pots and containers may need twice a week. For heavily treed lots, wait until most of the leaves have fallen before planting that area. ColorStar fertilizer, once every three months for beds, one every 2 months for containers.
