One of the most popular summer annuals for our heat and sun. The hotter it gets the happier they are. Even with the newer generations of periwinkles like Cora, the ones that we sell, we are not totally out of the woods for disease issues and virus'. Yes, they are bred to be more resistant but not immune. With a few cultural practices and planting habits we can help keep them healthy and the beds ready to grow them for years to come.
- Try not to plant them too early. Periwinkles do not like wet or cool, they love it hot and dry.
- Rotate your flowers from year to year, do not plant periwinkles in the same beds each year, especially if there was an issue the prior year.
- Keep them on the dry side early. Only water enough to get them established, more water is not better.
